By MARK HAYESCBS NewsThe FBI has declined to answer questions from a CBS News reporter about whether it has information about a report the bureau published last month on the theft of the DNC emails.
The FBI is still in the process of reviewing a report on the hack of the Democratic National Committee, a bureau spokesman told CBS News.
In an email sent to CBS News, the FBI spokesman said, “The FBI cannot comment on an ongoing criminal investigation.”
The bureau is reviewing the report.
A spokesperson for the DNC said in a statement to CBS NEWS that the bureau is working closely with the Justice Department to fully investigate the hacking of the organization.
The DNC’s chief of staff said last month that the party’s emails had been stolen by “a foreign intelligence service.”CBS News first reported last month the FBI had reviewed a report from the agency’s cybersecurity division, which said it was “very concerned” about the potential for hackers to gain access to the server.
The report, written by the cybersecurity division of the FBI, said there were indications the hack was likely conducted by Russian intelligence agencies.FBI Director James Comey told lawmakers last month he had seen no evidence of a coordinated effort to leak emails from the DNC.
